After having cycled through an eternally long winter in Western Europe, our entry into Eastern Europe has been accompanied by warmer, sunnier weather. You could try and wipe the smiles from our faces, but I bet you couldn't!
At the moment we are in Budapest. We struggled to follow the cycle route into the city, but were rescued by a kindly local (Peter) who led us directly into the centre. We are staying in a hostel and were greeted with smiles and a bowl of delicious local food. Tuesday night is 'pub crawl' night at the hostel and apparently nearly everyone was heading out into the city to get drunk. We declined the offer of joining them. Spending an evening in bustling pubs and clubs is totally off our radar at the moment! We decided to go for a quiet stroll around the city, admiring the illuminated buildings and enjoying the first warm evening of our trip! Budapest is a beautiful city by the way!
Vienna was our first rest day in ages and our tired legs were screaming at us to spend a day sans-bike. We stayed with Nina, Simon and Sophie (and their two cats!) and had a really wonderful time! As well as welcoming us us into their home, Nina and Simon took the time to show us around the city on Saturday morning. It is a beautiful city and probably the first place we've visited that I'll definitely return to one day to explore in more detail. The architecture is awesome and, being a capital city, it has a great, cosmopolitan feel to it. We were treated to schnitzel and Mozart Balls and a wonderful Indian tea that had a delicious chocolatey aroma!
