We spent Wednesday morning looking around the city of Nantes: finding food and Internet access...the essential stuff! It was lovely to hear news from back home and also nice to give the bum a rest from spending all day in the saddle!
In the afternoon we headed along the Loire for a mere 10km to our next Warmshowers appointment. We were staying with Sylvain and Maryvonne who themselves had recently completed a mammoth 5000km journey on a tandem bike: island hopping around the med before reaching Turkey and heading back to France along Eurovelo 6. We shared a lovely evening with them: being fed a sumptuous 5 course meal, sampling French wines and watching the slideshow of their trip. Before retiring to our en-suite bedroom!
The rain poured down as Nantes faded into the distance and the mighty Loire became our new travel companion, guiding us across France. The terrain was smooth and the gradients hardly noticeable, and once the sun arrived by midday and temperatures reached 18oc, it was perfect cycling! Going was so good that we arrived at our destination (La Possonière) by 4o'clock! I kicked off my (worryingly-at-this-early-stage-of-the-trip very smelly) shoes and lazed in the sunshine, while we waited for the locals to disperse so that we could sneakily set up camp!
So here we are, in the laundry room of the campsite, using the tumble drier as a table to write this blog. I no longer smell, I'm wearing clean clothes, my hair no longer sticks in 'permanently scared' position and I'm about to go and cook a nice dinner of rice and lardons (and then be able to wash up using hot water!).
Love and hugs. X
