We left Orléans in a snow shower. Jean-Marc and Marie had been kind enough to offer to let us stay longer if we didn't fancy heading out into the wintry weather, but we had another Warmshower booked for that evening so we had to decline...plus we didn't want to appear to be too soft!
The cycling was fine, despite the cold wind and intermittent snow showers. Our Buff merino wool head-things (?!) did a great job of keeping ears and noses warm! The weather gradually deteriorated throughout the day and by the time we arrived at the home of the Percher family, our glasses and cycle helmets were covered in a thin layer of ice!
Another cold day was in the offing, but clear blue skies (and the excitement of reaching a mini milestone of 1000km!) put a much more positive perspective on things! In addition, a wonderful tailwind helped ease us through the 112km to Fourchambauld (on the outskirts of Nevers) where we found a campsite to rest for a couple of nights! Ashley and I were the first cycle tourers to visit the 'Camping à la Loire' this year and, given that most of northern France is covered with snow at the moment, were greeted by a somewhat bemused owner! He called us "crazy!" but thanked us for visiting his campsite and as well as giving us a decent rate for the two nights, threw in a couple of bottles of beer too!
Love and hugs. X
