...Going on off on a slight tangent: I never had the 'pleasure' of being a scout when I was younger. I did attend 'cubs' (the precursor for younger boys) a couple of times, but didn't really enjoy the experience and the slightly patronising way in which the most mundane of tasks was rewarded with a badge (in hindsight, it might have been useful to start off by teaching us how to sow and therefore actually being able to attach the badges that we 'earned' rather than relying on an experienced maternal hand?!)....
Back to the story in hand: The hot chilli rub that we bought at the wonderful Christmas market in Totnes (unquestionably the finest way to begin the Christmas season) should be perfect for this situation and its effectiveness will be tested this evening. Given the location of my soreness, I can assure you that concentration levels will be high and focus on the job in hand will be pin sharp...one slip of the finger will bring a whole new meaning to 'ring of fire!'
Speaking of food, Ashley and I have been re-training our brains with regards to our diets. Gone is the need to always eat 'healthily' and we've welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Calorie into our lives with wide open arms!
A typical breakfast now is: Mug of tea, bowl of cereal, bowl of porridge with chopped banana, two large pieces of toast with peanut butter, an apple.
Lunch is usually: Two rounds of sandwiches (1x tuna/mayo and 1 x cheese/tomato/salad), an apple or banana, a couple of handfuls of nuts/seeds/dried fruit.
Dinner will be something like: Chilli con carne with rice, pasta bolognese or chicken with rice.
Throughout the day we'll be grazing, between meals, on nuts and seeds, biscuits and in my case maybe a Cadbury's Boost or Mars Bar...or both! Normally 2-3 litres of water will be guzzled too! It's amazing how liberating it feels to actually need to eat this quantity of food!
...I've just been struck by a genius (potentially terrible) idea: perhaps we could learn the national anthem to each country that we'll visit so that we can endear ourselves to the locals through the medium of patriotic song (I can't imagine Ashley welcoming this idea with the greatest of enthusiasm...hmmm will have to think how best to 'sell' the idea to him!)...
Anyway, that's all for the time being. Weather report states that we could be in for some snow towards the end of the week, could be interesting!
P.S. Ashley totally bought the National Anthem Karaoke idea!
